Today we welcomed the newest member of the herd at Mortenson Ranch.
A baby calf was born here on the ranch, tucked close to its mother and slowly taking in the world for the first time. Out here, moments like this are part of ranch life, but they still stop you for a second. One day the pasture looks the same as it always has, and the next there is new life lying in the warm New Mexico sun.
That is one of the things that makes this place special.
Mortenson Ranch is known for its Western movie town, horseback rides, events, productions, and Clyde the buffalo, but the heart of the ranch is still the animals, the land, and the everyday work that keeps it all going. This is a place with history, but it is also a place that is still alive and growing.
The new calf is still young, staying close to its mother and learning the world little by little. For now, we are giving them both the space they need while keeping a close eye on them. Around here, that is part of the rhythm. You care for the animals, respect their space, and let nature do what it has always done.
For anyone who visits Mortenson Ranch, the animals are a big part of the experience. They are not props or background pieces. They are part of the ranch’s daily life and part of the story people get to see when they come here.
Today, that story got a little bigger.
Welcome to the herd, little one.
